That's why they are called "bird dogs"!

We have two beautiful German Shorthaired Pointers... and we love them! But there are days when we don't like them very much. Mo had one of those days last week. Since moving last summer, we have a really BIG, wooded backyard with lots of room for the dogs to play... and get into a little mischief here and there. So far, Lance has managed to kill one cat that wandered into our yard and mame another. In addition, he's killed two squirrels. Even Cuda got a squirrel of her own. None of that bothered us as much as the dove they got last week.
Mo walked out into the yard to find 2 dove "trapped" in the batting cage. Try as they may, they couldn't find the way out. It didn't take long for our lovely pups to figure out they had a "captive" dinner. Within seconds, each dog had a dove. Mo managed to get Cuda to spit hers out right away so she could help it fly to safety. But Lance just wouldn't let go. He didn't eat it... he didn't draw blood. Silly dog! He just carried it around, but I guess in all the fuss about trying to get him to let it go, the bird got a little squished. When Mo finally coaxed him to let go, she picked the dove up and laid it out of his reach.
and then she cried as it wiggled and convulsed and finally took its last breath. And then she yelled at our dogs and told them she "hated" them... to which I said, "Mo, you can't blame them for doing what they were bred to do... that's why they call them bird dogs." She understands, but doesn't like it one bit. Neither do I. Sometimes life just stinks, doesn't it?
