by the "paper" feeding frenzy that occurred when I put a stack of patterned paper out for these 5th grade girls! Crazy, crazy! They "Ooohed" and "Ahhhhed" and tore through it just like all of the rest of my scrapping buds would have. Watching them was the next best thing to getting new paper myself. Check this out!

Crazy fun! I've never tried scrapping with a group of pre-teens before, but these 19 girls are a riot. We're meeting once a week after school in my art room and learning to scrap from the basics to as far as we can get in the 14 weeks of school that we have left.
This is something that I've talked about doing for a couple of years, and though I LOVE teaching art, I've been slightly afraid of trying to scrap with a bunch of kids. So, what did I do to calm my fears? I asked a friend to help me (there's safety in numbers, you know?). Now I wonder why I've waited so long. Not all of these girls are "scrapping naturals", but they all WANT to learn and their parents are thrilled to take them out and buy the basics to get them started. Check back weekly to see the projects they are working on... I bet you'll be surprised at what they can do. I certainly was (and I've been teaching most of these girls for 5+ years).
Oh - and if you're in a position to start a group like this, don't put it off. The laughs you'll get in the first hour will make it well worth your time!

Let me say it again, you are amazing!
Oh I LOVE the idea!
I'll have to think about asking some of the paper companies to donate some papers for the kids - I was thinking of starting a Teens scrappin' club at the small local library and I don't have much in my stash.......I look forward to seeing your progress with the kids!
I did the same thing with my class last year. We have 60 kids working at the same time. Oh my goodness, the mess!!!!!
